Trip OverviewOnce the heart of the Moorish empire, Andalucia still pulsates with the influence of its art, architecture and culture particularly in the great cities of Seville, Cordoba and Granada. The countryside north of Malaga is a region of dramatic limestone mountains, dotted with ëwhite villages', where we spend four nights in a charming rural hotel located in a remote, and very traditional, village. We enjoy three day-walks in the surrounding hills and valleys before moving on to the spectacular cliff-top town of Ronda. Here we can explore the Moslem quarter or the fine bullring, and a free day allows time for you to make your own discoveries - perhapsa scenic train trip to Algeciras, on the Mediterranean coast. In vibrant Seville there's much to see and do. We visit the Cathedral and the Alcazar, explore the Jewish quarter - and have time to sample the lively nightlife. The great mosque (Mesquita) of Cordoba is justifiably renowned, with its striking decorations and forest of arches, as is Granada, where we visit the Alhambra Palace and the gardens of the Generalife. In between the two we head out to the village of Cazorla to enjoy a rewarding day hike in the rugged national park. We also see some gems of Renaissance architecture in provincial Ubeda. From Granada there are easy connections to Malaga. Itinerary & Departure Dates
