Trip OverviewThe invigorating climate, surreal colouring and pollution-free environment make this an unforgettable holiday. Geologically unique, Iceland is a place of spectacular scenery, with volcanic fires suddenly unleashed from beneath great glaciers. We stay at friendly guesthouses, summer hotels and on farms. At Godafoss and Gullfoss are two of Iceland's most famous waterfalls. Majestic Gullfoss, the 'Golden Waterfall', plunges into a 50m deep gorge. We'll stop to see the Great Geysir, the world's largest 'gusher'. Its eruptions have been unpredictable of late, but nearby Strokkur spouts at regular 5-10 minute intervals. The wild Skaftafell region is great walking country. You can follow marked paths to Svartifoss (Black Waterfall), which cascades over pillars of dark basalt. One highlight is an exhilarating boat trip on an ice-filled glacial lagoon. Driving via the spectacular Dettifoss Falls to Lake Myvatn - a paradise for birdwatchers - we explore the lake's environs on foot. Rare birds, normally too shy to be seen, preen themselves right in front of your camera. The astounding geology is like an open book on earth history!Itinerary & Departure Dates
