14 Day Nairobi to Nairobi

If it's a unique experience of a life time you seek, then this is the Gorilla and Game tour for you. The tour includes a stop at Nakuru National Park , which is renowned for its white rhino’s, leopards and pink flamingos. We then head towards the mountains of Uganda , passing through some of the most stunning country side in East Africa. From here into the highlands for a memorable encounter with the mountain gorillas, the gentle giants of the rain forests. Jinja, source of the Nile , is next with an option to take in some white water rafting and the soft power educational project. Back into Kenya we stop at Kembu Farm, then onto Lake Naivasha before our tour ends in Nairobi.

Day 1 We depart the Indaba Campsite at 9am. We head out to the Rift Valley, a 7000-kilometre cut in the Earth’s surface and one of Earth’s few landmarks visible from space. If we are lucky on our game drives we may find Lion or Leopard as well as Rhino. Tonight after our game drive we camp inside the National Park and listen to the wildlife as we huddle around the campfire.

Day 2 - 3 Leaving Lake Nakuru after our morning game drive, we climb up the Eldama Ravine to the fertile Highlands of Kenya. Today we pass a tapestry of small holdings farming sheep, tea, pyrethrum (used for making insect repellent) and mushrooms! We overnight at Naiberi Falls one of the most famous overland stops in Africa.

Day 4 - 5 We camp at Bujagali Falls overlooking the Nile. Here we have the opportunity to spend two day’s, enjoying the spectacular rapids and scenery with a number of different activities to suit your tastes. During the day perhaps try White Water Rafting on the mighty Nile, starting on the easier grade two and three rapids to gain confidence and then on to the grade 4 and fives for a adrenalin rush, what an awesome day with spectacular scenery as you float down the Nile between rapids.

Day 6 - 7 Today we transit through the beautiful country side of Uganda ; we stop on the equator for some photos and the famous ‘water experiment”. Does water flow in different directions on different sides of the equator? From here we start to climb the hills in to the Switzerland of Africa to altitudes of over 2000 metres. We wind out way up the mountain passes to arrive at our base camp – Lake Bunyonyi a beautiful fresh water lake at altitude. Tonight there is an opportunity to upgrade to chalets for a small fee. We pay the camping part and you add the balance.

Day 8 Trekking Day! Up at 5.30 am we are off. With the help of local guides, armed with pangas to cut through the vines we walk through the dense equatorial rain forest in search of Mountain Gorillas. The trek to find them generally takes between two and four hours (but sometimes more). Once found we are able to sit quietly and watch them from only an arm's distance away. It is an exhilarating sight - from the huge silverback weighing up to 200 kg, to the tiniest baby.

Day 9: Today we return to Lake Bunyonyi where we spend the afternoon relaxing and trading gorilla stories. You can swim in the lake, take out a dug out canoe, climb the surrounding mountains, or take a walk down to the local village project. Don’t forget to try some of the fresh water crayfish.  

Day 10 & 11: We leave the lake and travel to Kampala the capital city of Uganda. Here you have the option of exploring the town and thriving market areas, or if time permits take a trip out on Lake Victoria to Ngamba Island where Chimpanzees are being rehabilitated from the illegal trade back in to the wild. Here the Chimpanzees can be viewed from very close range during specified feeding times.

Day 12 & 13 : A change of pace we leave Kampala for Kenya and head to Kembu farm on the outskirts of Nakuru. Here you have the opportunity to tour a commercial farm in Africa , before visiting another of Kenya ’s lakes – Lake Naivasha , locally known by the Masai as E-na-iposha (heaving waters).

Day 14 : After a morning of activities we drive back out of the Rift Valley, The truck should arrive back in Nairobi between 3.30 and 5.30 pm when your tour ends. Time for you to clean up at your hotel and then join us at Carnivore for a final meal. As many people fly out this evening dinner is not included in the Local Payment. A full Buffet meal at the Carnivore costs approximately $20 and is a great experience. The famous Carnivores Restaurant, will satisfy any meat eaters desire, try crocodile, or various game meats (farmed of course), but don’t worry there is also an excellent vegetarian menu.
